Scythe Book 1 by Neal Shusterman (2017)

Story: 10 of 10 Stars

I have to say, I’ve started and fallen off of quite a few first books of certain series out there, leaving the rest of the story of those characters unknown and forgotten. This though, is not one of those books.

Starting with a slow burn and introduction into this world where natural death has become obsolete. The fears we all have of overpopulation, famine, and disease all have become nonexistent. But death is still always around the corner, still robed and hooded but not as dark as it once was. Humans have become their own bearers to the afterlife known as Scythes. Whoever they choose to take away, whether it is at random or by their own bias choice, is for only them to say.

This is by far one of my favorite starting books to a series I have read in at least the past 5 years if not longer. So I highly recommend you pick up your own copy.
