Aliens: Vasquez by Violet Castro (2022)

Story: 5 of 10 Stars

After just coming off of another closely related book called “Bishop”, again one of the all-around favorite characters from the alien franchise, the former being such a great addition to an already built up universe. The things that worked within that book, were either absent or didn’t quite hit the mark I was looking for.

Vasquez being one of the favorites within the second installment of the movie franchise is to absolutely no one‘s surprise, a bad ass and truly tough as iron female character, who gave me the original idea in my adolescence that female protagonists did not have to have someone else there to save them. Such a hearty in depth character I was excited to see and learn more about within this story. I was holding out some semblance of hope that maybe she would’ve been found alive or some other classic 90s action movie scenario where she is just too bad ass to kill. But the unfortunate reality is we already know how this character’s story ends, so the only way to go within this story is backwards, before the conclusion of Aliens.

I would love to say that the interests I started with was held, but unfortunately it was not. I am not a reviewer who spoils a read for others, so I will leave it at this. If you’re hoping for more “Vasquez” story, you will get it, but if you’re hoping for more “Jenette” you will be left wanting. But if you are a deep lore diver within the series it is still a good read, just don’t let the title mislead you with its first impressions.

Side note:
Loved the voice actress, very very well done on her casting, had a lovely voice that kept me listening when I was lacking within the story.
